optegra:hhkl Financial Advisory advised ambulance and patient transport company Herzig on the sale to the Danish Falck Group

Cologne, October 11th, 2011 – On September 28th the Danish Falck Group acquired the German ambulance and patient transport company Krankentransport Herzig GmbH and its subsidiary KS-Medi-Service. Therewith the worldwide largest Group in the sector of emergency medical services will be active in rescue operations in Germany for the first time.

The family-owned Krankentransport Herzig GmbH was founded in 1949 and has its local seat in Hamm/Westphalia. Dieter Herzig has been the CEO of the company for 35 years. The nearly 100 employees of the company complete about 30.000 transports a year, in which they perform 25 percent of the emergency medical service and 70 percent of the patient transport service in Hamm.

With the acquisition of the Krankentransport Herzig GmbH, the Falck Group with its 23.000 employees and its operations in 31 countries will be operating in the German emergency medical service for the first time. According to the Managing Director of Falck’s German ambulance company, Prof. Dr. Klaus Runggaldier, the decision of Falck to acquire Herzig was a conscious one. Krankentransport Herzig and its previous owner, Dieter Herzig, have an excellent reputation in this field and the emergency medical assistants are well-trained and highly motivated. In addition, the emergency medical service school KS-Medi-Service GmbH, which is a subsidiary of Krankentransport Herzig, offers important synergistic effects in the further education. Dieter Herzig will continue his work in the company as Managing Director together with Klaus Runggaldier.
